Auf dem Malerweg
Found along the Elbe sandstone mountains, this is guaranteed as one of Germany’s most stunning hiking trails. Your dogs should be familiar with heights and walk over bridges or even ladders to get the best out of this route with your fluffy friends.
The complete trail is 112km long, which can be walked in stages. Otherwise, you can always pick shorter routes that better fit your itinerary. Along the way, you can come across some astonishing tourist attractions in Saxony, such as the Große Diebeshohle or Festung Königsstein. You’ll be able to take your dogs through the gardens of the fort, not into the buildings, however.



Baybach Gorge Dream Loop – Best hiking trails in Germany

Hiking at Oberstdorf
Last but certainly not least, hiking at high altitudes with amazing views!
Oberstdorf offers this with many different trails and different difficulty levels. Make sure you take along enough water for you and your dog, something to eat, and be sure that you and your 4-legged hiking partner are both vertigo free.
Do not force your dog over narrow paths, rather take a different route. There are lots of dog-friendly biergartens or cabins situated around Oberstdorf for a cold one (or warm drink) after your hiking expedition.
